Newark, N.J. Murder / Manslaughter Defense Lawyer
One of the most serious violent crimes you can be charged with is Homicide, which includes the crimes of Murder, Manslaughter, and Death by Auto. A conviction for any of these crimes will result in the Court sentencing you to a very long period of incarceration, and potentially to life in prison. The typical bail range for a client charged with Murder ranges from $250,000.00 to $1,000,000.00 and the prosecutor will be asking for a source of funds hearing. This means that before a formal bail motion is heard you need to be gathering the information needed by your defense lawyer to argue for a bail to be set on the lower range of this range.
If you are charged with Murder, Manslaughter or Death by Auto, contact Howard Bailey for a free consultation on what is happening and what needs to be done.
Defending a Client Charged with Manslaughter, Murder or Death by Auto
Whether you are charged with Murder, Manslaughter or Death by Auto, it is critical that you begin developing a basis to weaken the State case as soon as possible. There are only a few instances where the State will provide you with a plea offer before the case is presented to the Grand Jury, and the New Jersey prosecutors will not give the defense a copy of the police reports if they are not making a plea offer.
Because of this, the defense must begin to investigate the leads the defense does have and begin to negotiate with the State to get a plea offer as soon as possible – even if there is no real interest in a plea offer – because then the defense gets at least some of the discovery before the case is presented to the Grand Jury.
Why You Need a Knowledgeable Criminal Defense Lawyer
Howard Bailey has represented clients charged with each type of Homicide, throughout the State of New Jersey. In many cases, more than one person is charged and the State will charge each person in the conspiracy with all of the crimes that were committed by each defendant.
This means that even though you did not actually have the gun, or pull the trigger, that you can be charged with having caused the death. Knowing what issues can help you build a defense allows an experienced criminal defense attorney to focus the defense investigator on those issues while the evidence is still fresh.
If you are being charged with homicide in New Jersey, the most important things you can do as a defendant are: DO NOT TALK TO THE COPS; say I WANT A LAWYER; and then hire a lawyer to protect your rights and your freedom.
