When you are arrested or detained, call someone who can help you get a lawyer. This is not a social call and do not talk about what happened. If you are indeed arrested, the one phone call you get is almost certainly being recorded, and anything you say can be used against you if you admit involvement in what occurred, or brag about what you did. Say only where you are, and ask them to get you a lawyer to your location as soon as possible. So use your one phone call wisely. And remember what you do or say in the first 24-hours of being arrested can impact whether you get convicted or end up walking away. If you are pulled over, or being investigated, and not “under arrest”, call a lawyer or someone who can get you a criminal lawyer and then do not talk to the police should they have determined probable cause to arrest you.
