Resisting Arrest

Be warned: When the police arrest you, resisting that arrest is an additional crime even if the charge you were originally being charged with is dismissed. You cannot resist the arrest. Resisting arrest by pulling away from the police, or waiving your arms to avoid being handcuffed, or playing ‘keep away’ from the officer, or worse, running, which can trigger a more violent enforcement showdown that can end tragically, is a crime that for which you can be be convicted even when the original reason for the arrest is dismissed. So if you’re read this, and ever have a confrontation with police on a matter of law, resisting arrest can only potentially make things much worse for you. If you have been charged with any crime or resisting arrest and need professional legal counsel, contact my office for a free consultation to discuss methods of moving forward for representation that may lead to dismissals that can help you keep your freedom.
